Second-Hand Mitsubishi Shogun

Used Mitsubishi Shogun
We're currently many generations into Mitsubishi's 4x4 SUV. The Shogun brings elements of luxury and comfort to the utility sector and was an immediate hit when it launched in 1983. The second generation came in 1991, garnering even more acclaim than the first. Buyers appreciated its robust appearance and the range of engine choices. In '98, the Shogun underwent some minor cosmetic updates, before the arrival of a dramatically revamped generation three in 2000. 2007 saw a fourth generation brought into the mix, while late 2009 saw engine upgrades, better quality interiors and a five-speed automatic gearbox. Further 2011 revisions endowed the exterior with a slightly more macho image.

What You Get
The original Mitsubishi Shogun was rather square but gave way to a curvier second generation with a more comforting interior. It's always been large, both inside and out. Standard kit was good and options included automatic transmission, air conditioning and leather trim. A used Shogun has never hidden its pretensions to luxury. By generation two, a digital screen shows all your ride information, but cabin materials could have been better. A useful seven-seat configuration doesn't cramp the spacious cabin or the design, which is pleasingly curvy. Shogun's looks have in fact weathered very well, and only get better the newer you go.

How it Drives
With a number of wins in the Paris-Dakar rally, the used Mitsubishi Shogun boasts some substance with its style. If off-roading is your bag, you'll have some great weekends in it but the Shogun copes equally well with tarmac. The Shogun is muscular, rugged and powerful, but it’s not speedy. Overall it’s a competent all rounder and a good, reliable used buy. Its height gives you superb visibility, so you can clearly see the road in front of you.
