Second-Hand Fiat Multipla

Used Fiat Multipla
When it first launched, the original Fiat Multipla was considered strange because of its unique styling. The first model offered two engine options: a 103bhp 1.6 16v petrol and a great little 1.9-litre JTD turbo diesel, plus two trim options: SX or ELX. In the year 2000, the Fiat Multipla won Top Gear's Car of the Year award, but 10 years later production ceased. The most recent models offered revised trim levels, including new Dynamic, Dynamic Plus and Eleganza and a new 1.9 litre Multijet diesel engine. Second-hand Multiplas can be picked up for a great price and are ideal if you’re looking for something a bit different.

What You Get
A design that divides opinion, that’s what you get with a used Fiat Multipla. An unusual 3+3 front and rear seating layout, low and wide flooring and a lofty, domed roof. The original's features were replaced with a far more streamlined design – still the same basic shape but somehow smoothed out and with a neater design to the auxiliaries. The funky interior didn't need so much work, retaining a dashboard that managed to be both curvy retro and space-age futuristic simultaneously and an unorthodox distribution of driver controls, in a small way making up for the lack of cool on the outside. Passenger comfort is second to none, while luggage space is exemplary. It really is all very clever.

How it Drives
For a vehicle with so much height and width, the handling of a used Fiat Multipla is exemplary. While it's no speed demon, steering and gear changes are as good as you will find. While performance is similar between the diesel and petrol engines, the diesel is far more efficient and has better torque weight. The low, square body might impede acceleration figures and make parking in small spaces challenging, but it makes it nice and steady around corners.
