Second-Hand Fiat Idea

Used Fiat Idea
A second-hand Fiat Idea is both cheap to buy and run. It’s a solid buy for families thanks to the vast amount of interior space and storage. First introduced in 2003, the name is in fact an acronym and stands for ‘Intelligent Design, Emotion and Architecture’, all three of which it delivers in bucket loads. Newer models are much cuter and funkier, but all are great to look at, be in and drive. Available as a 1.4l petrol or 1.3l turbo diesel, there’s also a range of extras that can be chosen.

What You Get
Available in Active, Dynamic and Eleganza trim levels, the used Idea builds on Fiat's classy small car reputation. With a relatively compact body shape, its most noticeable feature is its height – at 1.6 metres, it's almost as high as it's wide. It has a short, drop-nosed front end and a squared-off rear section – both of which make it ideal for city driving. Glazing has been stretched to the max to help all-round visibility. Inside the cabin, the styling is minimal, functional and well thought-through. The controls are particularly driver-friendly, with each switch and knob within easy reach of your fingers. The speedo/rev counter is centrally positioned on the dashboard, which takes a little getting used to. The Fiat Idea's best-selling feature, however, is the space in the back and how you can use it.

How it Drives
The Fiat Idea gives you two engine choices; 1.4, 16v 95 bph petrol or the more powerful MultiJet 1.3 16v 70bph turbodiesel. The Multijet delivers better performance with excellent fuel figures of around 45 mpg and it can do 0 to 60mph in about 15 seconds. The ride is firm yet soft, though there is a certain amount of body roll. Parking shouldn't be a problem, with minimal overhang, great all-round visibility and its 'City' button which lightens the steering.
