Second-Hand Chevrolet Captiva

Used Chevrolet Captiva
Chevrolet has a long pedigree in the 4x4 market and has plenty of experience in producing quality utility vehicles. While the compact Chevrolet Captiva may look fairly urban, it is actually a rather practical crossover vehicle with a seven-seat capacity. A 2.4-litre petrol and a 2.0 CDTi diesel were offered with varying trim levels, designated LS, LT and LTX, the latter two being the seven seaters. There was a front-wheel drive option on the used Captiva LS, while 2009's Ikon special edition with improved styling and equipment was good value.

What You Get
A second-hand Chevrolet Captiva is an unashamed 4x4, with the requisite giant bumpers, large-sized grille and big wheel arches. However, these clever touches have the effect of reducing the vehicle's apparent bulk. Even though there are extra seats on the inside, they are not squeezed in so there’s still plenty of headroom and legroom. Build quality is good, as are safety features and driver control options. The 4x4 drive is a smooth on-demand system, with the rear axle being activated as driving conditions require, while the ABS and ESP are intuitive, including HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist), HDC (Hill Descent Control) and ARP (Active Rollover Protection) functions.

How it Drives
The 2.0-litre diesel is a substantially livelier engine than the 2.4-litre petrol and the front wheel drive versions disposed of a considerable amount of weight in the 4-wheel-drive system, but are best saved for local and urban driving. If you're at all likely to tackle any tricky terrain or will need to tow, stick to the 4x4. The Chevrolet Captiva's agility is nothing to boast about but its ride, handling and acceleration are consistent with rivals in its class. It's a practical vehicle for its size, as well as being a comfortable and good value for money seven-seater.
