Second-Hand Chevrolet Camaro

Used Chevrolet Camaro
The Chevrolet Camaro is an American institution in the same vein as the Ford Mustang or Pontiac Firebird. Launched in 1966 to great acclaim, it became an integral part of the country's muscle car tradition. Coming to the UK in 1998, the Camaro doesn't really have an equivalent market rival, making it hard to market and something of an anachronism on our roads. Its power output promises fun on the road, but it may not be the most practical option for families or those wanting a simple runaround.

What You Get
Used Chevrolet Camaros are big and powerful. Launched with three versions available, a coupe and a convertible each with a 3.8-litre V6, plus a 228bhp V8 Z28 coupe. It’s pretty athletic looking from the outside with bulky features on both the interior and exterior. It must be said though that specs and safety features are generous. Traction control, air conditioning and alloy wheels are standard features, as are automatic gearboxes. Options included manual 5 and 6-speed gearboxes on the coupe and Z28 respectively, plus rather funky targa lift-out roof panels on the coupe.

How it Drives
Designed for smoother American highways, the Chevvy Camaro suffers from a somewhat lumpy ride on our European roads. However, when you put your foot down you'll be too busy enjoying its speed and power to worry about that. The V8 will get you from 0-60 in 5.3 seconds, unexpected in such a heavy beast of a car. Unfortunately, the 3.8 litre can't match the Z28's foot-down fun quotient and neither model has any finesse in the braking and cornering departments. A second-hand Chevrolet Camaro is a great buy if you follow the bigger equals better philosophy, or you're looking for speed over agility, or if you embrace the retro styling.
