RAC Cars Need To Know:
Bentley has long been one of the most prestigious and respected marques in the world, thanks entirely to its history of incredibly expensive and luxurious super-limousines for the rich. Bentley’s image has gone through something of a rejuvenation over the last decade; it’s gone from connotations of old men puffing a pipe to young, modern and super-cool. And it’s all down to one car: the Continental GT.
The Bentley Continental GT came along in the early 2000s and it blew Bentley’s image out of the water. The car was praised left, right and centre for its clever and powerful W12 engine, ridiculous 550bhp and awe-inspiring leather and wood interior. It’s been the company’s flag-bearer for profit and media attention for most of the 21st century.
So, if you’re a footballer, the Continental GT is the car for you, but what about everybody else? Well, the Mulsanne will set you back around £200,000, so you had better be financially secure if you fancy one. If you can afford it, the Mulsanne is one of the finest cars Bentley has ever made. It’s a car worthy of superlative description and remains one of the most luxurious cars on the planet.
For those looking for a good used buy, the aging but still brilliant Bentley Arnage is a great option. It’ll go through petrol like an aircraft carrier but at least you’ll look brilliant while crippling the world’s natural resources. The Arnage is one of the more iconic Bentley models, so if you fancy a cheaper way to buy into the Bentley scene, the Arnage is the ideal partner.
All Bentleys come as standard with plenty of pomp and circumstance. They’re quintessentially British cars with heaps of power, fantastic engines and workmanship of the highest order. Sure, they’re no sports car; they won’t return good MPG, and they definitely won’t be easy to park, but who cares? A Bentley has to be considered as a dream car and, as a result, they’re always a car which is bought with the heart rather than the brain.
