Paris Motor Show 2014: Land Rover Discovery Sport

By raccars Published

Perhaps one of the most talked about cars at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, the Discovery Sport replaces the ageing Freelander in Land Rover’s model line-up. It combines the Evoque’s looks with 5+2 practicality, thanks to a clever space-saving rear suspension.

Engines will be familiar to Evoque drivers, as Land Rover has yet to receive the new diesel engines being built in Wolverhampton: the Jaguar XE gets first dibs on those.

So, we’re talking a 2.2-litre 190hp SD4 turbodiesel, capable in the Discovery Sport of returning 46.0mpg (44.9mpg in the auto) and hitting 62mph in 10.4 seconds (automatic 8.9 seconds).

The Land Rover Discovery Sport’s interior is very impressive. Flooded with light here at Paris through the (optional) panoramic roof, it’s high quality, elegant in design and, yes, surprisingly roomy. There’s been a lot of attention paid to detail, and on first evidence, it’s really paid off - particularly in the super-practical rear - passengers there even sit up higher than those in the front, in time-honoured Land Rover Discovery ‘stadium seat’ fashion.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport costs from £32,395 for the launch SD4 four-wheel drive and it will be in UK dealers from January 2015 (a sub-£30k eD4 follows later in 2015).
