Paris Motor Show 2014: Kia Sorento

By raccars Published

Want a seven-seat SUV on a budget? The Kia Sorento has been providing that for years – but now, Kia’s moving the model upmarket, meaning it’ll no longer feel too much like the cheap alternative.

We chatted to Kia bosses at the Paris Motor Show 2014, who told us they wanted the Sorento to be a good alternative to more premium German rivals, without the hefty price tag.

The new Sorento is larger than its predecessor and a more muscular appearance. It’s got that tiger-nose grille, and the interior now feels much less like a budget SUV.

With the wheelbase extended by 80mm, passengers get more legroom than before – and the boot is also bigger, with an impressive 605 litres of bootspace with the rear seats up.

Only one engine will be offered in the Sorento in the UK – a 2.2-litre turbodiesel already found in the outgoing model. Technical details are yet to be confirmed – but the previous model takes 9.2 seconds to hit 62mph with the same engine, and will return 47.9mpg. Expect similar figures for the new car.

Prices haven’t been confirmed either, but we’re expecting a small increase over its predecessor.
