Audi Q2

All the prices, tech and spec news for car buyers interested in the new Audi baby crossover

Car buyers will be able to pick up a new Audi Q2 for as little as £20,230 if they can wait until the end of the year.

The announcement by Audi that the most basic Q2 will be available for just over £20k means that it will be a cheaper alternative to buyers who have previously considered the £25K Mercedes GLA or the £27K BMW X1.

The price tag also pitches the entry-level 1.0 litre new Audi against the likes of the Mini Countryman, which has a price tag of £17K.

The Q2 can be ordered right now, although the entry-level models and the top-of-the-range vehicles will require a little more patience. The #Edition 1 can be ordered from September, together with the TDI 150PS, with its 2.0 litre engine and the chance to add quattro AWD.

Car buyers who want the entry level Q2 TSFI, meanwhile, won’t be able to make their purchase until even later in the year.

The new Audi Q2: wheels, trims and specs

There is the usual Audi S line, Sport and SE trim structure on offer and entry-level vehicles feature 16-inch alloys and Audi’s smartphone interface, which is compatible with both Android and Apple devices.

The Sport models boast 17in alloy wheels, in addition to sports seats upholstered in cloth, rain and light sensors, and SD-based navigation.

The alloys go up to 18in on the S line and there is also the addition of a multi-functional steering wheel, and LED rear lamps and headlights.

The #Edition 1, meanwhile, is available in Quantum Grey with brilliant black C-pillar blades and Manhattan Grey contrasting panels on the lower body. The look is completed by 19in alloys and an exterior styling pack in black.

When it comes to technology, the new Audi Q2 is packed with features that can also be found in larger models in the Audi range. These include pedestrian recognition and the option of cross-traffic assist, traffic-sign recognition, lane departure warnings, traffic jam assistance and adaptive cruise control.

More on the Audi Q2 Edition #1

The top-of-the-range Audi Q2 Edition #1, with its starting price tag of £31,170, has an engine-choice that may not seem as bullish as its exterior but makes sense in a model at this level.

There is the option of a 1.4 148hp petrol version, together with an Audi dual-clutch, seven-speed gearbox, or a fuel-saving 1.6 diesel producing 114hp and boasting a fuel consumption figure of 61.4mpg.

The Edition #1 has all of the standard features of a regular Q2, together with LED tail and head lights and scrolling indicators. The seats are part-leather and height-adjustable, the steering wheel is leather bound and multi-functional, and there are ten colour options when it comes to the LED ambient lighting inside.

Background on the new Audi Q2

The new Audi Q2 is the company’s smallest soft-roader and is an expansion of the Q range of crossovers and SUVs. It is number four in Audi’s Q collection, coming in beneath the Q7, Q5, and Q3 models.

There was uncertainty surrounding the naming of the new model because both the Q2 and Q4 titles were owned by the Fiat Group. Ingolstadt managed to secure the badges, however, despite their previous links with four-wheel drive versions of the Alfa Romeo.

The resulting Q2 offers a no-risk design and more boot space (when the seats are up) than the A3 Sportback, despite being 13cm shorter. It is marginally wider than the Audi A3, however, in order to account for a higher centre of gravity.
