Music To Your Ears?

There are many reasons to choose a car or that make some cars greater than others - performance, fuel economy, appearance - but what about the noise they make? Does a booming exhaust note get you excited when you drive through a tunnel? The following cars have all been noted for a sexy growl, an exhilarating howl or simply a brutal roar.

Alfa Romeo 4C

At the more melodic end of the scale, the 4C provides a youthful but very elegant vroom vroom sound when you put your foot down - an ideal accompaniment to its entertaining driving dynamics and sexy styling.

Fiat 500 Abarth

It only takes a small amount of pressure from your right foot to make the Abarth sound very excited indeed. Like a Dachsund that thinks it's a Doberman, straining at the leash, the Abarth isn't actually very fast but it gives a very good impression of a Formula One racer going through the tunnel at Monaco.

Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

The Italian firm prides itself upon a soulful exhaust note. Take the 731bhp F12 Berlinetta through a tunnel at 8,500rpm and your life will never be the same again - and nor will your eardrums...

Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R

V8 engines of any flavour give off an unmistakable rumble but the new GT350R comes with an unique flat plane, high rpm unit, that has to be heard to be believed and can be shown off at its best on the racetrack.

Chevrolet Camaro Z/28

You'll notice the growling of this 7.0 litre unit passing at 7000rpm from the other side of town. It's a track racer's dream and surprisingly sophisticated for what looks like such a brutal beast.

Lamborghini Aventador

The Aventador prides itself upon its loud brashness and gross brutality. Give the minus paddle a twitch and instant entertainment is guaranteed - use tunnel for emphasis!

Lexus RC F

The LFA supercar was one of Lexus's most exciting efforts and the company has transferred a number of its features to the RC F coupe - including an awesome booming exhaust to make up for 25mpg.

Maserati Gran Turismo Convertible

The original Gran Turismo sounds - and feels - entertaining enough, but the convertible's open roof takes you that much closer to its V8 aural sweetness. Put your foot down and feel yourself jamming as if your favourite beat is being played.
