Cool Convertibles For Hot Days

By raccars Published

Our country may be notorious for its poor weather, but nonetheless, Brits love their convertibles and despite all evidence to the contrary, summer is beckoning. There are some great options out there for every style and budget and here are ten of the best:

Audi TT Roadster

The post-2007, second generation version of this hipster car has better handling and is more fun to drive than the original. Go for the excellent,VW Golf sourced 2.0 TFSI engine.

BMW 6 Series

The 2011 convertible version of the 6 Series is not a budget choice, but it is deliciously luxurious. It's a sleek and beautiful beast that will draw plenty of admiring eyes, but as a BMW, also has the substance to back up all that style.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class

This chic cabriolet from 2010 was effectively a replacement for the CLK but, in reality, is a larger and far better car. The fabric roof is particularly advanced, featuring special acoustic tuning that makes it one of the quietest and smoothest fabric roof mechanisms in the cabriolet market.

Volvo C70

This was something of a departure from the norm for the Swedish giant, which has paid off in full. The smart Volvo C70 wins style and comfort points, with an excellent metal folding roof, that makes it practical for winter use as much as summer.

VW Golf Cabriolet

The cabriolet version of the classic hatchback was always popular but suffered from a strange nine year production gap, prior to 2011. Fortunately VW came to its senses with an updated version, retaining the fabric folding roof and mass market appeal of the earlier model.

Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet

The Megane's unconventional looks have divided critics but the cabriolet version has won almost universal approval. Its unusual roof mechanism is made up of two pieces of glass for maximum brightness, compared to metal and fabric alternatives, even with the top on.

Jaguar XK Convertible

Drawing admiration since 2006, this Jag is the ultimate convertible. It's powerful, beautiful and screams quality.

This sporty two-seater is the very essence of top-down fun but simultaneously utterly refined. Best with the racy 300bhp 3.0 litre twin turbo unit.

Mazda MX-5

One of the older vehicles on the list and far from the fastest, but cute and characterful, nonetheless. Rear-wheel drive and superlative handling guarantee a fun ride.

Mini Convertible

The new Mini is proving just as iconic as the original and the ever-popular convertible version boasts the same funky retro styling as the standard car.
