Chris Evans Shares His Cars For Charity

By raccars Published

DJ and television presenter, Chris Evans, is a well known petrolhead and Ferrari fanatic. However, the star has shown he also has a big heart, auctioning off the chance to drive 12 models from his cherished collection, as part of a Children in Need charity event.

The 'Drive and Dine Extravaganza' raised more than £800,000 for the charity in November and saw Chris Evans auction off two packages of driving experiences. Seven bidders won in the 'Magnificent Seven' category, which was made up of seven spectacular Ferraris: a 250 GT Lusso 'Competition' from 1963, a TR61 from 1961, a 275 GTS Spyder from 1965, a 250 GT SWB from 1963, a Ferrari 288 GTO from 1985, a 1990 F40 and a 2011 Sa Aperta.

The 'Famous Five' category saw five winning bidders get to drive a selection of spectacular classics in the form of the actual Aston Martin DB5 from 1965, which featured in 1996's James Bond outing, 'Goldeneye', a replica 1965 Morris Minor Cooper S, a Jaguar E-Type from 1970, a Lamborghini Miura from 1987 and a 1930 Bentley Meteor.

This week the winning bidders took part in a barbecue breakfast, which saw F1 champion, Jody Scheckter and the Laverstoke Park team take on cheffing duties at Evans' home in Berkshire, before the convoy set off through the countryside, taking in various landmarks along the way, such as Wiltshire's Longleat Safari Park.

The driving tour reached its conclusion back in Berkshire at the famous Cliveden House Hotel but the festivities continued at Foxbridge Golf Club, with a Dine and Disco Evening, with food provided by chef, Giorgio Locatelli and wine by Olly Smith. Celeb baker, Paul Hollywood, made bread specially for the occasion and Gary Barlow was on live music duty.

The generous Evans regularly hands over the keys to his prized supercar collection.

His next automotive based charitable endeavour will be this year's CarFest, a family friendly event taking place on 2-4th August at Oulton Park Race Circuit in Cheshire and on 23-25th August at Laverstoke Park Farm. Displays of fabulous and exotic race and road cars from Evans' own collection and various others will be joined by live music from top bands, gastronomic delights and various other entertaining features. This is the festival's second edition after last year's event raised nearly £1 million for Children in Need and is easily one of the highlights of the automotive events calendar. Extra day tickets have recently been released, after the original run sold out soon after coming on sale in January.
