Cars Hotting Up For Frankfurt

By raccars Published

Jaguar 4x4

A prototype of the famous brand's leap into the luxury SUV market will be unveiled at the German show next month. The crossover type vehicle is not likely to be on sale before 2016 but industry rumour predicts a very accessible £30,000 price tag, helping Jaguar to pick up some of the young families demographic that is part of its ambitious development plan. A previous focus on luxury sports cars and limousines has helped the company record a 25% jump in profits over the past year, but Jaguar Land Rover has a very full dance card of upcoming models that are likely to help it graduate from a niche brand to a major contender in the mainstream premium brand sector.

Kia Concept

The so-far-unnamed concept from the Korean brand will be targeting the Nissan Juke, with compact crossover proportions. Despite rugged styling, the B-segment car is aimed strictly at the urban environment and in its current form is unlikely to graduate to production car status. However, Kia is keen to assess the possible demand for an expanded product range in the future.

Vauxhall Cascada

A hotter version of the new Cascada will be introduced at Frankfurt, with a power boost to 197bhp for the existing turbocharged 1.6 litre engine. Order books on the higher performance version of the recently launched convertible will open in October, with the first deliveries in early 2014. Along with a pokier engine, the car's suspension has received some attention to improve handling. The Cascada is part of a major model line up revamp by Vauxhall, which is promising 23 new car releases within the next five years along with an all new engine range and powertrain selection.

Infiniti Q30 Concept

Nissan's premium sister brand will be showing Frankfurt visitors an ultra modern idea for a hatchback, designed to rival the Audi A3 or BMW 1 Series. A production version of the super sleek concept will be a key part of brand's UK model range as it attempts to boost its modest sales volumes. The Q30 is likely to hit the streets in 2015 out of Sunderland's Nissan factory. The five door car takes design cues from the Q50 saloon and was created with the aid of F1's Sebastian Vettel in his capacity as Infiniti's new Director of Performance. With any luck this will result in a racy driving dynamic in a premium package.
