Online selling site, Gumtree, has conducted a survey questioning 2,000 Brits about which cars they would add to their driving bucket list - the cars they most want to drive before they die. While, predictably, supercars make up the bulk of the list, the more modest Mini Cooper S, in tenth place, shows British drivers to be a fairly down to Earth bunch.

9. Ford Mustang

The Mustang's mystique as an American muscle car, a sector that really has no British equivalent, is no doubt part of its appeal.

8. Lamborghini Aventador

A predictable choice, the Aventador is a full blooded, Italian supercar and the dream of petrolheads worldwide.

7. Audi TT

Another relatively mild choice, the TT is an excellent car but is affordably priced and within the reach of your average buyer, yet survey respondents seem to have put it on a pedestal.

6. Porsche 911 Carrera

Arguably the ultimate sports car, the 911 is the pinnacle of driving experience for many, within their lifetime or just as a dream.

5. Jaguar E-Type

It might be older than many of the survey's participants but the E-Type has lost none of its allure, simple growing more and more desirable with age. Its celebrity has put it beyond popular classic status and into bucket list territory.

4. Rolls-Royce Phantom

It's the luxury that appeals to most, allowing passengers to feel like royalty in its cosseting back seats. However, the Rolls-Royce is no slouch on the road either and is a dream drive for many.

3. Ferrari 599 GTO

Another Italian stallion, the Ferrari has performance and sex appeal in spades, along with that legendary badge and the weight of expectation that it implies. It's not just a car, it's a lifestyle.

2. Bugatti Veyron

The Veyron is mostly known for its fastest car in the world status, showing British drivers want to feel like they're flying just once in their lives.

1. Aston Martin DB9

The car that apparently tops most Brits' lists of dream drives is the glorious and thoroughly British Aston Martin DB9. Available as a coupe or a Volante convertible, it's not the fastest car on the list by far, but with a V12 under the bonnet, is no slouch all the same. It's also imbued with endless amounts of luxury and beauty, and the Aston Martin name that allows every man to fancy himself as James Bond when behind the wheel.
