Attention To Detail

Whilst a number of cars are instantly recognisable from the front, few earn much distinction when viewed from behind. However, in the following vehicles, superb attention to detail means it's a pleasure to sit behind them on a busy road.

Alfa Romeo 4C

The 4C has earned style plaudits all around, and has the substance to go with the style. Viewed from behind, it has both elegance and attitude, just like its performance.

Aston Martin Vanquish Carbon

Despite the capacity for menace contained under the bonnet, the Vanquish Carbon shows fearless sophistication from behind, and it'll disappear in a flash, once a clear stretch of road opens up.

Audi R8

An unusual step into extreme design territory for Audi, the R8's aggressive design looks more like it should wear an Italian badge.

The X6's styling is like Marmite - it draws as much disapproval as it does admiration. One thing we can all agree on, however, is that it's distinctive. What to some looks bulbous and ungainly, is to others conveys an impression of both masculinity and agility.

Bentley Mulsanne Speed

A classic portrait of restrained opulence, the Bentley whispers rather than screams, 'I am expensive'.

Bugatti Veyron

Arguably more beautiful from behind than from the front, the legendary Veyron is a lesson in how to sculpt curves, and only hints at the savage acceleration beneath.

Caterham Seven

It might not be elegant, but the Seven exhibits bags of retro appeal and funky, open top fun. It's also unmistakably British from any side.

Dodge Viper

Ridiculously, brutally aggressive, the Viper could only be American, yet that excessive rear spoiler risks looking clumsy and a little over the top.

Ferrari 458 Spider

An unusual triple exhaust outlet and tiny, bug eyed tail light clusters characterises one of Maranello's most finely drawn rear designs.

Ford Mustang

This is one car you won't resent being stuck behind in traffic. Ford's latest Mustang is better looking than any muscle car on the road at the moment, designed with a more European aesthetic in mind.

Honda Civic Type R

This car is certainly not as serious as the standard Civic - in fact, the new Type R both looks and performs like a boy racer's dream.
