British drivers are very used to driving in the rain, thanks to the famously inclement national weather. However, summer rainstorms present a particular set of challenges, for which some cars are better equipped than others.

Mazda MX-5

This roadster coupe doesn't look like an obvious choice for handling summer rainstorms, but in fact has the world's fastest folding roof. You may be sailing along quite happily with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair, but once the rain starts to fall, the MX-5 will have you safely in the warm and dry within 12 seconds.

Range Rover

One of the dangers of heavy rain on dry summer roads is flash floods, which build incredibly quickly and make such a confusing mess of the road that it's hard to work out the depth of water-submerged areas. However, the Range Rover is fitted with a clever Wade Sensor device, which can measure how deep puddles are before you attempt to drive through.

Nissan Qashqai

For the same reason, crossovers such as the Nissan Qashqai, with their elevated height, are helpful when it comes to tackling summer floods.

Audi

Thanks to a new 4G infotainment system, Audi drivers can make sure they are kept informed about what the local weather is doing. The premium German brand is the first to fit 4G high speed internet in cars, meaning weather apps can keep you fully up to date.

Skoda Superb

The Czech company has always been a little bit different, and the practical Superb's answer to mitigating summer weather crises is to build an umbrella holder into its door panel. Superb drivers will have no excuses for being caught out without a brolly in future.

Mini Convertible

Buying a convertible in the UK always provokes some consternation and the question of whether it's really worth it with the British weather. However, with sales of convertibles rising, Mini has come up with a novel little idea to help soft top owners work out if they are actually getting their money's worth - a meter that logs how many hours you drive with the roof down.

Ford

Ford's Quickclear demisting system is great for the humid summertime weather effects that can cause car windows to get steamy quickly. It's difficult to drive safely when you can't see out of the windscreen but Quickclear will restore visibility within seconds.
