New Volkswagen Touran

Sharing similarities with the VW Sharan, the Touran combines a mix of practicality, refinement and comfort in a smaller package

With short front and rear overhangs, along with straighter lines that make it stand out, the new Volkswagen Touran has a distinctive design. The overall boxy appearance is minimised by subtle curves on the bonnet and front. High-quality and comfortable, the cabin features supportive seats and plenty of space, with the dashboard completed with the same practical design that can be found in most of the Volkswagen range.

Various engines provide plenty of choice, regardless of fuel preference. There are two petrol engines, a 108bhp 1.2-litre and the 148bhp 1.4-litre. The 108bhp 1.6-litre diesel and the 2.0-litre with two power outputs of 148 and 187bhp are powerful enough for most everyday driving situations, and are also very fuel-efficient. Good steering, a firm but not stiff suspension, minimal body roll and plenty of grip make the Touran great to drive around town or on the motorway. The standard features are excellent, with the S trim equipped with air-conditioning, alloy wheels, cruise control, DAB radio, cloth seats and chrome trim inlays. Further up the range, the SE model comes with Bluetooth, leather steering wheel and tinted rear windows amongst other features. At the top-of-the-range, the Sport version boasts sports seats, chrome exterior trim and two-tone climate control. Extras include full leather upholstery and Xenon lights, as well as a panoramic sunroof.

Safety is a priority in many Volkswagen cars, and the new Touran is no exception. The standard safety features are extensive, with airbags, head restraints on all seats, full seatbelts, ISOFIX child-seat mounting points, tyre-pressure monitoring system and electronic stability control. In terms of fuel economy, the most frugal engine is the 1.6-litre TDI diesel with BlueMotion technology that returns 61.4mpg.

Perfect for Families Designed with seven seats and a spacious boot along with numerous safety features, the new Volkswagen Touran is an ideal family vehicle. It performs well, the cabin is made with high-quality materials, and the engines provide very good running costs.
