New Nissan Qashqai

New Nissan Qashqai

The Qashqai is one of the best-selling crossover cars in Britain, with its practical build, efficient engines, choice of drivetrains and comfortable interior cementing it as a fan favourite.

The new Nissan Qashqai follows the original and hugely successful model that has paved the way towards the current crossover market. A subtle facelift and interior upgrades add more elegance and contemporary accents to the design, whilst maintaining the beloved bodywork and familiarity of the original intact. The exterior features stylish contours on the bonnet and sides along with standard LED running lights, whilst inside there are plenty of soft-touch and high-quality plastics and materials. Very supportive seats and better sound-insulation enhance the level of comfort in the cabin.

All Qashqai engines have enough muscle and provide good fuel economy – they are turbocharged and have stop-start technology that reduces running costs. The range includes two petrol engines: an 113bhp 1.2-litre DIG-T and the 148bhp 1.6-litre DIG-T. The diesels range from 1.5-litre to 1.6-litre, with the latter having an impressive 236lb ft peaking at 1750rpm. Entertaining to drive both around town and on winding roads, the new Qashqai is stable and agile, with body roll maintained at good levels around sharper corners. The steering is very responsive and the suspension efficiently absorbs most bumps on the road. The four-wheel drive versions also receive an upgraded multilink suspension. The entry-level Visia trim comes with Bluetooth, manual air-conditioning, cruise control, five-inch display screen and cruise control. Further up the trim range, the Acenta adds dual-zone automatic air-conditioning, 17-inch alloy wheels and front fog lights, to name a few. The top-spec Tekna gets 19-inch alloys, a glass roof and part-leather seats, amongst others. Extras can also be tagged on to enhance any trim further.

Safety & Economy

For such a large car, the running costs are surprisingly low and very competitive for the class. The 1.5-litre dCi diesel returns an official figure of 74.3mpg and emits less than 100g/km of CO2, meaning there is no road tax to pay. A five-star rating obtained after rigorous Euro NCAP crash tests brings more peace of mind, along with the list of standard features that includes six airbags, electronic stability control, hill-start assist, and ISOFIX child-seat anchoring points. Numerous extras are also available.

Perfect for Families With various improvements from an already impressive original, the new Nissan Qashqai is a great all-round vehicle that will suit many drivers. Comfortable and stylish, equipped with various features and more fuel-efficient than many of its rivals, the new model continues the path of the first Qashqai with confidence.
