New Ford Focus

The well-equipped Ford Focus is as entertaining as always, with plenty of comfort and a solid build. More so, the Focus drives very well and has received a few cosmetic updates since its last release.

Having received a few cosmetic touch-ups in 2014, the Ford Focus now has a stellar design, with narrow headlights and an angular chrome grille that give it immediate presence from the front, whilst the back culminates in a longer roofline. With moderate changes on the outside, the inside is quite the opposite, with an all-new dashboard made from soft-touch plastics. Larger switches make operation easier, and blue-tinged instruments give the cabin an upmarket feel. The Focus’s boot holds 363 litres, and 1148 with the seats folded down, making it fairly useful for hauling luggage.

Comfort is one of the Ford Focus’s strengths, and makes for a very smooth ride. Despite this, driver engagement is still a priority, with the Focus having sharp, responsive steering and plenty of grip. The chassis is impressive also, and altogether the Focus handles a lot like its smaller sibling, the Ford Fiesta; certain specs also come with slightly altered dynamics, making them even better on the road. Ford has also made sure that the engines provide enough muscle to go with the agility of the Focus. The 1.0 litre EcoBoost is surprisingly strong for such a small engine, whilst the 1.5 litre model makes overtaking a breeze. Air conditioning and USB inputs are standard equipment across the Ford Focus range, whilst some serious kit can be added with the upper trim levels, including DAB radio, a heated windscreen, Bluetooth and a rear-view camera.

Six airbags, ESP, electronic stability control and torque vectoring aid the car in keeping safe, plus optional extras such as adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warning can be added for a premium. There are also great returns on fuel and less than 140g/km of emissions for any given engine in the roster.

Perfect for Perfect for Young Professionals and Families The Ford Focus makes for a great alternative to the Fiesta, its larger size trading a marginal amount of agility for added comfort and practicality. That being said, it still handles exceptionally well, and is a solid deal for families in particular.
