New Ford Ecosport

New Ford Ecosport

Ford’s Ecosport SUV comes equipped with plenty of default equipment, and the high seating provides great visibility. The 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine is also particularly good.

Since the last edition, the Ecosport received some subtle changes to its design, with chrome trim towards the front, LED daytime running lights and chrome-detailed foglamps added to accentuate the Ecosport’s unique looks. The rear-mounted spare wheel present in the last Ecosport is now also gone, and helps to refine the Ecosport’s overall design. The inside of the car has detailing similar to the Ford Fiesta, with a dashboard that integrates a blue LCD display and a console keypad. Build quality has also been upped, with better plastics on the seats and switches, and the sync infotainment system that is ever intuitive.

In tweaking the engineering of the Ford Ecosport, Ford have made the springs and dampers firmer, as well as having changed the steering ratio, which has helped to tighten up the Ecosport’s grip on the road. The best engine available is the 1.0 litre EcoBoost – even though it may sound tiny, its brilliant torque and effortless five-speed transmission give it a turn of speed that is hard to moan about. Steering is also well-weighted, with the Ecosport able to turn into corners very capably. Even though the Ecosport has only two trim levels, both of these are well-equipped. The entry-level Zetec features LED lighting, air conditioning and the Ford SYNC system, whilst upgrading to the Titanium spec increases alloys from 16 to 17 inches and adds roof rails, cruise control, climate control, automatic wipers and keyless entry. Rear parking sensors can also be added at a premium.

Safety & Economy

As you would expect from a compact SUV, safety is considerable, with seven airbags, stability control and child-seat mounting points. Fuel economy isn’t too bad either, especially with a diesel engine on board.

Perfect for Small Families The Ecosport is a great option for fans of the Ford Fiesta who are also curious about the crossover niche – taking its basic styling from its smaller sibling, the Ecosport combines a high driving position and a fairly practical build with rugged styling.
