New BMW X6

The X6 has benefitted greatly with a striking bodykit and brilliant handling – especially considering its huge size. Already a very sporty SUV, upgraded aerodynamics improve performance, whilst other minor changes have made the X6 very efficient for its class.

The design choices present in the X6 make for a more agile, stylish looking vehicle. The trademark BMW grille has been stretched across the front, for a look that matches narrower headlights, whilst the roofline tapers off towards the back end. Creases down the side emphasis the more spritely nature of the vehicle. The interior of the X6 has also been updated, but with a focus on comfort – all seats are spacious, and even the rear bench has plenty of room for adult occupants.

As with the X5, the X6’s range of diesel make the most sense, and offer a good blend of power and fuel economy for a car of this class. The lowest spec engine, the 30d, still pulls magnificently, reaching 62mph from a standstill in just over six and half seconds, whilst managing to squeeze out 47 miles to the gallon. xDrive models are very rapid, but of course trade frugality for raw power. The X6 has a pretty comfortable ride, which can also been improved with the use of the Drive Performance Control’s Comfort mode – of course, Sport configurations tweak settings in favour of more engaging dynamics. Stocked with kit, the X6 doesn’t leave buyers wanting for much. Heated leather seats, a 20GB hard drive, front and rear parking sensors and ambient lighting are but a fraction of the included equipment. There are also plenty of extras available too, such as the panoramic glass roof and impressive Harmon Kardon stereo system.

Passengers should also be at ease with the inclusion of six airbags, type pressure monitoring and stability control, as well as preventative measures for theft. Fuel economy and emissions are fairly similar to the X5, with the xDrive 30d being capable of 47mpg and a reasonably low 157g/km despite the SUV build.

Perfect for Families and Fleet Whilst the X5 is a great all-round SUV, the X6 is worth consideration for buyers wanting something a little more sporty. The main trade-off for added style and tighter performance is a loss of space, particularly affecting the boot, and to a lesser degree, rear headroom.
