New Audi RS7

New Audi RS7

Essentially a bodyswap of the RS6, the RS7 is a high-performance coupe with a beautiful design. Driving the RS7 is intuitive, but most all fun, with a great cabin for comfortable transport.

The RS7 strikes a great design balance, with a look that is refined but daring. Its visual impact is a standout amongst most Audi models, with the air intake and bumper remaining centred, but sporting a more sleek looking set of headlights. It also boasts the side sills that are seen in most RS modes, whilst the retractable spoiler is a distinctive detail that helps it to stand out even further. The RS7 is revamped with a larger information display, with notable upgrades to the electronics’ systems, and better integration with the on-board infotainment. Robust and well-arranged controls adorn the centre of the cabin, which in typical Audi fashion, is laced with high-quality materials. New colour and wood options allow for a range of customisation options. The boot, which holds 535 litres normally, can also be extended via folding the rear seats.

As you would probably expect, the RS7’s power is the most riveting aspect of the car, boasting a 552bhp 4.0 litre V8 engine underneath the hood, and a top speed of 189mph. The power provided from this turbocharged unit means you can expect a 0-60 sprint of 3.9 seconds, whilst the eight-speed transmission shifts through gears tirelessly on its own. The RS7’s ride is firm but balanced, with a responsive throttle and brake, and precise steering that reacts accordingly to commands; this is also aided by Audi’s torque vectoring, which makes minor adjustments easier. Audi’s now commonplace Drive Select System is based on three different modes, which affect the engine, transmission, steering and even seatbelt tension. This can also be tuned to more precise settings via the ‘individual’ mode. The adaptive suspension (also customisable via DSS) takes road conditions in its stride, making use of the RS7’s stability systems. New carbon fibre ceramic brakes are impressive in their stopping power, and combined with the rest of the technology, provide thorough control. Standard equipment in the RS7 includes heated, electronically adjustable sports seats that are both comfortable and supportive, as well as LED headlights, the aforementioned heads-up display, satellite navigation, the MMI system, parking sensors and climate control. There are some brilliant extras available at a price too, with the 14-speaker Bose system a particular standout.

Safety & Economy

The cabin is covered for safety, with an array of airbags and stability control included, whilst surplus kit lets you choose from side assist, active lane assist, a night vision assistant and adaptive cruise control. The cylinder-on-demand feature is an efficient system that cuts off half of the available power when cruising at moderate speeds – although going all out with the RS7’s engine is unlikely to save you as much, driving the RS7 at somewhat sensible speeds means you can potentially get over 28 miles to the gallon, which is very impressive considering the power available.

Perfect for Driving Enthusiasts Drivers who loved the specs of the RS6 Avant but pined for something resembling a supercar will be thrilled at the prospect of owning an RS7. Its incredible performance inside such a slick body will definitely attract car enthusiasts, and as with the Avant, the RS7’s capabilities come with a luxurious build, so making the most of this car is not only fun, but comfortable too.
