New Audi Q5

The Q5 is a refined SUV with a good mix of muscle, technology and comfort. Well-built with plenty of features, the Q5 also excels in the used car market, with a fantastic resale value.

The Q5 is reminiscent of its larger counterpart, albeit built to a smaller scale. The large grill at the front and daytime lights at either side set it apart from the Q7, whilst S line models get larger alloys and a more aggressive bodykit, primarily noticeable in the bumpers and arches of the car. The inside of the car is very impressive, with high-quality materials and a sleek, straightforward design. The glossy dash inserts and chrome trim look good, plus the dials and controls are all logically placed and made from quality materials. The interior itself is spacious, with plenty of legroom for passengers and sufficient width in the driver’s seat as to not feel boxed in.

The Q5 benefits from tight, well-tuned body control, making manoeuvring surprisingly easy, and oftentimes a lot more enjoyable than most other SUVs. This works well with the Q5’s tight grip, meaning the Q5 can power through less than ideal conditions with relative ease. The Drive Select package also provides the option to control throttle response, steering and damper control, letting you adjust these settings to match your driving preferences. The 2.0 litre TDI engines offer strong performance (0-60 in 9.9 seconds) especially with 175bhp, as well as having a respectable fuel economy. The 2.0 litre TFSI and 3.0 litre TDI petrol are also both streamlined and powerful. The seven-speed automatic gearbox is impressively smooth, although the manual transmission in the 2.0 diesel holds up too, bringing a weighty, satisfying feel to every gear change. DAB radio, Bluetooth, three-zone climate control, rear parking and more are all available as standard in the Q5. Sat nav and heated seats are optional extras, plus the S line spec gets plenty of sporty touches both in and out, such as xenon headlights and privacy glass. The standard MMI system, having been implemented in the Audi range for some time now, works to great effect here, with its ease of use making cabin control simple.

Plenty of safety features make the Q5 reliable on the road, coming equipped with stability control, six airbags, roof rack detection and driver fatigue motoring. It is also very efficient and eco-friendly, especially for its class, with all models returning at least 40mpg or more, with a cap of just under 180g/km of CO2 across the range. Audi has always been a reputable manufacturer too, so the above factors combined with the brand mean that resale values are high.

Perfect for Families The Q5 is a very well-rounded SUV, with a comfortable, ergonomic interior, agile handling more similar to a hatchback, and great performance that doesn’t empty the wallet. Those with a little extra cash would do well to buy the Q5. While its asking price may be a little higher than some of its competitors, there aren’t many vehicles that can offer the same level of economic saving and resale value in the same class.
