New Audi A5

Offering a great range of customisation options, the Audi A5 is a great choice for the driving enthusiast. This coupe looks and performs brilliantly, and has a range of powerful but eco-friendly engines, especially within the diesel category.

The bodywork of the recently-redesigned A5 seems to draw from a wider range of inspirations than the typical Audi, mixing straight lines, curves and concave surfaces that work well in motion. The result is a striking look that turns heads and separates the A5 from many other vehicles in the same class. The interior is also stellar, consisting of premium-quality leather all around, highly-detailed seats, and a cabin that is as unique as the exterior, whilst possessing the familiarity of other Audis.

All A5 engines have a fair bit of muscle to them, regardless of your fuel preference. At the lower end of the scale, you have the 1.8 litre turbocharged engine, which provides plenty of power despite its size, moving from 0-62mph in 8.4 seconds. The 2.0 TFSI petrol engine is not only quicker, but gets 44 miles to the gallon by using start-stop technology and can be fitted with Audi’s fantastic multitronic 8-speed gearbox. In terms of control, the A5 hugs the road, with plenty of grip, especially with the option of Quattro four-wheel (awful weather makes near to no difference). The five-link suspension, constructed from lightweight aluminium, works in harmony with the electromechanical steering for a more responsive drive. Body control and ride quality are also noticeably better, due to more balanced weight distribution across both axles. Features in the A5 are extensive, with the SE (standard) trim including heated leather seats, a 10-speaker stereo, DAB digital radio, climate control, Bluetooth, parking sensors and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. Additional extras can be tagged on, with larger speakers and an upgraded stereo available, whilst the better trim levels include a bevy of cosmetic differences (the S line comes with adjustable sports seats too).

Its high price might be a setback for some, but the fuel economy and emissions, specifically in the diesel engines are good, and the in-built safety features (six airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, rest-recommendation system) are more than sufficient for a car of this calibre.

Perfect for Driving Enthusiasts The A5 is well-suited to the driver who loves powerful motors, but also values the opportunity to customise their car. With a sleek, slightly unconventional design and a powerful range of engines, the A5 looks and performs well.
