RAC Cars Need To Know:
The Volvo range initially looks confusing with its array of letters and numbers but it's a relatively simple code to crack. C denotes a coupe, S a saloon, V an estate and XC a 4x4. The bigger the number, the bigger the vehicle. See? Easy. Not quite so easy is the task of figuring out how to score the best value used buys. Volvo used car buyers are smart cookies and you'll need to be on your mettle to beat them to the draw.
Reliability and safety are big Volvo attributes and the latest models enhance that reputation. They're cars that are well sought after by responsible families and school run mums the length and breadth of the country hanker after used Volvo XC60 and XC90s. Which is why it's so hard to find a bargain. LPG-converted V8 XC90s seem one way to circumvent the system but these are hardly thick on the ground.
The best bargains look to be in the S60 range. This Volvo model has never really earned the respect it deserves and a diesel S60 D3 163 on a 2011 plate looks decent value at £15,000 when that same car is £27,000 new. Earlier shape used Volvo S60s shouldn't be ignored either as these offer strong value, especially if you can track down a well looked after D5 diesel model. The classic Volvo V70 cars for sale always attracts decent money, but better deals can be found in 4x4 guise, the XC70 being a great car to pile big miles onto. Even a £5,000 53-plated D5 SE with 150,000 on the clock is still barely run in.
There's plenty of action relating to used Volvo cars for sale on RAC Cars.com so shop around and enquire when you see a bargain.
