RAC Cars Need To Know:
If awards were given out to 'biggest improver', Vauxhall would have to be vying with the likes of Kia, Skoda and Hyundai. Where it differs from these marques is that it hasn't sprung from quite such humble beginnings and the latest generation of Vauxhall models will stun those who've not tried one for a few years. The current generation Vauxhall Astra is as good as anything in its class and make very solid used buys. The diesel engines might not be quite as sweet as some of its rivals, but there's no arguing with the economy and emissions figures.
As with any big mainstream marque, residual values will be depressed by sheer weight of numbers of ex-fleet cars, many of which will have been purchased with big negotiated discounting. This makes tidy used Vauxhall Astra and Insignia models look very appealing but the diesel models will often carry big mileages. Both are well worth seeking out. Look out for privately-owned car where the vendor is looking for an unreasonable asking figure. If you can convince them of the average sales price, you might be able to get a well-specified and low mileage car for a bargain.
Good value can be found with the outgoing Vauxhall Zafira range (although a cut-down range still soldiers on in dealerships) which is still a top drawer performer for the expanding family. Don't overlook the Agila either. It's a very different car to its predecessor and is a lot of fun to drive.
In a nutshell RAC Cars.com has thousands of used Vauxhall cars for sale so we're sure you'll be able to find a model to suit you.
