Ok, ok, so the Nissan Leaf isn’t going for the land speed record, but it is attempting one speed record, albeit a slower one. The electric Leaf will try and break the world record for driving one mile backwards.
Sounds odd, but it is a record that’s breakable, apparently. The attempt will happen at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, so expect a big crowd to gather when the Leaf starts travelling backwards.
"The Leaf Reverse Record isn't going to be easy and will be very challenging," said Terry Grant, the professional stunt driver who will be taking the Leaf out. "I'd prefer to do it on a nice straight and level strip of tarmac rather than on Lord March's drive. The hill not only climbs, but is also full of twists, turns and obstacles."
Let’s hope he can keep the thing in a straight line and not hit any of Goodwood’s beautiful cars on show.
